340B Drug Pricing Program
The 340B Drug Pricing Program is essential to many hospitals’ ability to provide healthcare services, including access to medications for uninsured and underinsured patients.
Recent actions by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and drug manufacturers have undermined the 340B program and jeopardized patient care services it supports. Most notably, drug manufacturers have refused to provide discounts to safety-net hospitals in flagrant violation of the law. The Medicare program has slashed reimbursement for safety-net hospitals that participate in the 340B program.
How to Protect Patients – ASHP is Working to:
Advocate for HHS to immediately
- Declare manufacturers’ refusal to provide 340B discounts illegal.
- Take enforcement action against manufacturers that fail to provide appropriate discounts.
- Require manufacturers to compensate hospitals for lost discounts.
- Restore Medicare payment to 340B safety-net hospitals.
